Abstract:   (201 Views)
With over 70 years of history, Nowshahr Port, is one of the most important commercial ports in Iran on the Caspian Sea. With its strategic location and advanced equipment, the port plays a key role in developing maritime trade, exports, and transit to Central Asian and Eastern European countries. One of the main challenges this port faces is sedimentation in the entrance channel and basin, which affects operational efficiency and increases dredging costs. Studying and analyzing the sedimentation rate in this area is essential for the optimal management of port operations. This study investigated the sedimentation process in Nowshahr Port using periodic bathymetry data collected over one and a half years. The data included periodic hydrographic measurements from October 2022 to April 2024. These measurements were analyzed to assess seabed changes and determine the accumulated sediment rate. The results manifested that methods based on hydrographic observational data are more accurate than analytical methods. To calculate the sediment and dredging volumes in this study, a triangulated irregular network (TIN) surface was constructed using Autodesk Civil 3D software for the primary and secondary dates. The results showed that the annual sedimentation rate is 0.38 m/year in the Nowshahr Port basin and 0.81 m/year in the entrance channel. These values are consistent with previous predictions and the results of numerical models in Nowshahr Port, confirming the importance of precise seabed change monitoring by hydrography. Furthermore, the effect of water level fluctuations on sedimentation rates was investigated using the Pearson Correlation Coefficient. The correlation was 0.81 in the Nowshahr Port basin and 0.64 in the Nowshahr Port channel. These results indicate a significant relationship between sedimentation rates in the Nowshahr Port basin and entrance channel and fluctuations in the water level of the Caspian Sea. These findings emphasize the importance of continuous monitoring and periodic hydrographic surveys for the optimal management of dredging operations. Ultimately, the results of this study can help improve the maintenance and performance of Nowshahr Port, as well as reduce dredging costs and increase productivity.
