A Conceptual Framework for the Application of Blockchain in Geospatial Sciences for Crisis Management.
Mahdi Rezaeian * , Iman Najafi
Abstract:   (52 Views)

In this study, the integration of blockchain and geospatial sciences, a case example of its application in crisis management, and the presentation of a conceptual model were examined. To achieve this goal, a qualitative approach based on meta-synthesis and thematic analysis methods was employed. Initially, the researcher conducted a systematic review of domestic and international studies to identify articles related to the development of blockchain in geospatial sciences and crisis management. The search keywords included combinations of crisis management, the application of blockchain in crisis management, the application of blockchain in geospatial sciences, countries’ experiences in using blockchain in geospatial sciences, countries’ experiences in using blockchain in crisis management, blockchain development strategies, and blockchain development barriers. In total, 47 studies were reviewed, and through this process, 29 factors essential for the development of blockchain in crisis management with respect to geospatial sciences were identified.

To validate these findings, the fuzzy Delphi method was used, revealing that 24 of the identified indicators met the validity criteria. The findings indicate that the integration of blockchain and geospatial sciences can be effectively utilized in crisis management if the following capabilities are established: enhancing inter-organizational and intra-organizational collaboration, enabling the exchange of individual and incident data, ensuring safety and reliability, managing identity and access, tagging and managing location information, and facilitating aid delivery to affected areas during crises. Subsequently, thematic analysis was applied to investigate the requirements for achieving these capabilities. Based on themes extracted from interviews, the most critical requirements for developing blockchain in geospatial sciences for crisis management include the advancement of programming languages and tools, and the adoption of blockchain platforms.
